N.I. Teijin Shoji to Import and Sell Yarn for Artificial Turf
~Expands Global Alliance to Enter New Field of Business~ |
 |
N.I. Teijin Shoji Co., Ltd. (head office: Osaka; president: Junji Morita) has concluded an exclusive agency agreement for the Japanese market with Bonar Yarns & Fabrics Ltd. of Scotland, one of the world's two largest manufacturers of yarn for artificial turf.
In its early days, artificial turf was mainly installed in athletic facilities as a measure against rain. But with recent technological improvements in the quality of the yarn and the pile finish, today's artificial turf offers greater player safety and an optimum playing surface. This has spurred its demand for use in facilities for baseball, soccer, rugby, tennis, and other outdoor sports. And because it is easier to maintain than natural grass, artificial turf is enjoying a growing market for use in public facilities such as school grounds and multi-purpose playing fields.
Bonar Yarns & Fabrics Ltd., part of Low and Bonar PLC, an international material technology group (head office: London, England), is along with the TenCate Grass Group of the Netherlands one of the world's two largest (by production output) manufacturers of polyethylene yarn for artificial turf. These two companies account for 70% of the world's production volume.
The Industrial Fibers Division of N.I. Teijin Shoji has for several years now been an import agent for the Low and Bonar group's nonwoven materials for carpet base fabric and waterproof applications. This successful venture prompted N.I. Teijin Shoji to expand its global alliance with Low and Bonar, resulting in the signing of an exclusive agency agreement for Japan with Bonar Yarns & Fabrics. The agreement was concluded at the end of November 2008 and sales in Japan kicked off as of December.
N.I. Teijin Shoji imports polypropylene and polyethylene yarn for artificial turf for sale to major Japanese artificial turf manufacturers. The target is annual sales of JPY 100 million and JPY 300 million in three years. |
